BMW Films' The Escape
You’ll forgive “The Escape” if it plays up some of the more eye-popping attributes of BMW’s line of luxury vehicles — like that they can single-handedly bring down a helicopter, given the appropriate method of connection, sure, okay — if only because the automaker has again footed the bill for superb slice of action-centric short filmmaking.

BMW Films famously employed a murderer’s row of directing talent, including John Frankenheimer, Ang Lee, Wong Kar-wai, Guy Ritchie, Alejandro González Iñárritu, John Woo, Joe Carnahan and Tony Scott, back in the early aughts to helm their “The Hire” short film series, and it seems as if they’re looking to get back into the driver’s seat again. This time around, Neill Blomkamp has taken the reins of a short entitled “The Escape,” which returns “Hire” star Clive Owen to the role of the Driver once again — and look, he’s still driving! Quite proficiently, as it turns out!
The film co-stars Dakota Fanning as a clone that Owen is tasked with delivering to a nefarious buyer, Jon Bernthal as the head mercenary for the shady bio genetics company that created her, and Vera Farmiga as the woman who might hold the key to an increasingly complicated — and explosive! — situation.
There’s no word yet if “The Escape” will turn into its own series, a la “The Hire,” but here’s hoping this gang gets back together sooner rather than later. Vroom vroom and such. Check out “The Escape” below:
